Community and Regional Planning

Apply for Admission

Who is eligible to apply?

If you have a bachelor's degree in any one of a broad spectrum of majors - the arts, social sciences, physical sciences, engineering, humanities, business, agriculture, among others - from an accredited university, you are encouraged to apply for admission to the Master of Community and Regional Planning degree program.

Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted for admission to the Master of Community and Regional Planning degree program on a rolling, continuing basis. Students may be accepted for admission in the fall, spring, or summer sessions. For priority consideration for financial assistance, applicants are urged to submit completed applications by March 1st for fall semester admission and November 1st for spring semester admission.

The Community and Regional Planning Program Admissions Coordinator, Pakiza Shirinova (402)472-9280 or pshirinova2@unl.edu, will work with you to complete the application process.

Application Processing

The application process requires two parts. Students must apply to the Office of Graduate Studies (Step 1) and to the Department of Community and Regional Planning (Step 2).

Step 1:

  • Online Application for Graduate Admission
  • $50 Application Fee (paid with credit card or check)
  • One copy of all college/university official transcripts

    Mail transcripts to:

    Graduate Studies Office

    University of Nebraska-Lincoln

    1100 Seaton Hall

    P.O. Box 880619

    Lincoln, NE 68588-0619

After completing the application you will be issued a University of Nebraska Identification Number (NU ID). Your NU ID will allow you to sign into the University's online records system - MyRed. There you can view a list of application materials received or still needed by the Office of Graduate Studies.

Within 24 business hours of being issued an NU ID you will receive an email message welcoming you to log into the Graduate Admission Management and Evaluation System (GAMES). There you will need to provide additional materials and information required by the College of Architecture. GAMES is a secure web-based system that allows you to provide materials online.

Step 2:

Please submit the following materials through GAMES:

  • Statement of Interest
  • Resume
  • Three references will be asked to submit letters of recommendation electronically
  • GRE score (recommended, not required)

International Applicants:

International applicants should send all the information requested above, plus:

  • TOEFL or IELTS score. Exemptions for the English proficiency requirement are granted for non-native speakers who have received a bachelor's or more advanced degree either from a U.S. institution or from a university outside the U.S. at which English is the official language of instruction.

The Faculty Admissions Committee reviews these materials, along with the letters of recommendation and the applicant's personal statement. The recommendation of the Faculty Admissions Committee is forwarded to the Office of Graduate Studies, where final action is taken on the application. The Office of Graduate Studies issues a "Certificate of Admission" to applicants who are admitted to the program.
